Medical negligence cases are on the rise today. In a news story, the NHS trust paid £150,000 pounds recently to settle a medical negligence claim. The case involved the death of a man from Nottingham after the staff at the hospital failed to diagnose a serious heart problem. His wife sued the hospital consequently and received a six figure sum in compensation.
The victim of this medical negligence case was 61 year old David Whittaker from Nottingham. He died a day after being discharged from Queen Medical Centre. He had visited the hospital previously after experiencing chest pains.
His wife decided to pursue a medical negligence case, after she found out that the staff did not carry out an electrocardiogram even after assessing Mr Whittaker’s condition. This test is needed to find out what exactly is the problem or the discomfort that the patient is facing.
Had this scan been done, they would have definitely found out about the aortic dissection that eventually led to Mr Whittaker’s death. The NHS trust admitted to the claims of medical negligence and that the patient’s life could probably have been saved if the right treatment was given to him when he needed it.
